Roofing that moves with your building. Flexible, liquid-applied and seamless.

Temperature change moves every roof, and rigid systems crack and lift where that movement concentrates. Liquid-applied systems stretch and bond as one continuous skin, and eFlex rates each Allbase system by how much movement it can take.

Every roof expands and contracts. Temperature swings, a passing cloud or a sudden shower all move the structure beneath the waterproofing.

All roofing materials expand and contract with daily and seasonal temperature change. Where a system cannot absorb that movement, stress builds at seams, upstands and details until the roof fractures and lets water in. Thermal movement is behind a large share of roofing failures, which is why the ability to flex matters as much as raw strength.

Daily and seasonal cycles

Heat causes materials to expand and cooling causes them to contract. Every material moves at its own rate for each degree of temperature change.

Where stress concentrates

Laps, upstands, penetrations and joints take the strain first. Rigid systems fatigue and split at these details long before the field of the roof gives way.

How the building is used

Occupancy changes how far the roof moves over the structure. A heated interior drives larger swings than open shelter, so the same roof can move very differently.

Elongation at break, in plain terms. How far a system can stretch before it fractures, and why more is not always what a roof needs.

Elongation at break (EAB) measures how much a material can flex before it fractures. A lower EAB suits smaller, stable roofs and may call for extra detailing or expansion joints to cope with movement. A higher EAB absorbs far more deformation, which removes the need for expansion joints on most projects. eFlex sets each Allbase system against this scale.

Built for strength

Fibrelast

A GRP system built for strength rather than flex. Applied correctly it lasts well over 25 years and suits roofs under 50m²; larger areas may need specialist expansion joints.

Flexibility: Low

High flexibility

Fibrecoat

A versatile system with a high flexibility rating, suitable for almost any roof. Applied across multiple surfaces, it removes the need for expansion joints.

Overcoat

Hybrid polymer technology that stays highly flexible and overlays onto virtually any existing roof surface, again without expansion joints.

Match the system to the movement. Size, exposure and detailing decide how much flex a roof actually needs.

A small, well-detailed roof that sees little movement can be waterproofed with a strength-led GRP system such as Fibrelast, keeping build-up and cost down. The trade-off is that larger or more exposed GRP roofs may need specialist expansion joints to stay watertight over time.

Where a roof carries real thermal movement, complex upstands or awkward penetrations, a high-flexibility system such as Fibrecoat or Overcoat absorbs the deformation as one continuous skin, with no joints to detail, maintain or fail.
