Organosheet

A composite whose matrix is a thermoplastic polymer, such as polypropylene, polyamide or PEEK, rather than a curing thermoset. Thermoplastic composites can be formed and reformed with heat, joined by welding rather than bonding, and are more readily recycled at end of life.

A semi-finished sheet of glass mat reinforcement in a thermoplastic matrix, typically polypropylene, which is heated and compression moulded into parts in short cycle times. GMT is an established material for automotive components such as underbody shields, seat structures and bumper beams.

The forming of heated thermoplastic sheet over or into a mould using vacuum, air pressure or matched tooling, then cooling it to shape. Applications range from vacuum-formed cladding and rooflight components to the forming of consolidated thermoplastic composite blanks.
