It's a hot week and I've got a large one-piece transom mould to infuse. I'm worried the resin will start kicking before the flow front reaches the far end. Is there anything I can do, or should I just wait for cooler weather?
Good instinct to check first, because a flow front that loses the race to gel is one of the hardest problems to recover from mid-infusion. The core rule is simple, so your infusion resin needs a working gel time comfortably longer than your measured fill time, with margin for the unexpected. On a big warm part you have a few levers, so use a system formulated with a longer gel time for infusion, keep the resin, mould and shop as cool as sensible since heat shortens gel time sharply, and cut fill time with better flow media layout or extra feed lines rather than pushing the resin harder. Do a timed dry run, and a small trial infusion if you can, to measure the real fill time before committing the full part. Exact gel times depend on the resin, catalyst level and temperature, so work from the datasheet, and if it looks marginal send your part size and conditions through get in touch so a suitable epoxy system can be matched to it.
